Mallory Kunkleralternative to sun screenAugust 16, 2025I much prefer the texture of this to traditional sunscreens. It feels more like a gel-serum than a heavy cream, which works well for my combo skin. It absorbs smoothly without leaving a greasy film, unlike some sun serums that can get oily on me (including Beauty of Joseon’s version).
That said, this isn’t the cleanest formula. It’s not oil free, not silicone free, not fungal acne safe, and not fragrance free, so people with very sensitive or acne-prone skin should be cautious. There are also a lot of plant extracts, which may be soothing for some but irritating for others (especially if you have eczema or rosacea).
On the positive side, the formula does pack in extras you don’t often see in sunscreens: niacinamide for brightening and pores, centella derivatives for calming, licorice for redness, and antioxidants for anti-aging. It also uses a nice mix of modern chemical UV filters.
Overall: great texture and strong protection with some nice skincare extras, but not the safest choice if your skin reacts easily.
