Usually, that means saturated shades by way of a lip stain or lipstick, but winter in New York City is a beast of its own, so I add lip balms to my rotation for extra hydration. I view them as utilitarian products, as primers for my lip colors or thick, goopy layers to slather on when I'm working from home. But with Lip Softie, it's hard to argue that lip balms sacrifice pigment.
